Karma Art Gallery — Ahmedabad invited a number of contemporary artists and invited them to express their vision of the city ‘Ahmedabad’ on provided 2’ x 2’ canvas. What transpired from that was exhibited in a group show titled Amdavad etle Amdavad. From those 67 canvases, 12 were chosen for this desk calender with an intent of promoting city based artists in the international arena.
Witnessing the show firsthand and interacting with the artists gave us very important insight in the whole project. On our request all 12 original paintings were provided to us for color matching during pre-press and printing. No efforts were spared matching the colors with the originals.
One more challenge was that the reduction factor — 24” original reduced to 4” reproduction — was too much and it threatened to merge the fine details together. We had to work extra hard on that and had to selectively color-correct the areas of similar details. Here once again 10m stochastic screen came to our rescue. With FM 10 it is possible to print unimaginable amount of details and even the smallest differences in the shades were visible in printing. As usual we took special care while exposing plates and made sure that the smallest dots on the plate were printable.
